Sideline Cancer ousted from TBT

WHEELING, W.Va. — Sideline Cancer’s run at The Basketball Tournament came to an end on Saturday, losing to Herd That, 73-64, in the round of 16, which is the West Virginia Regional.

Herd That, a team made up of Marshall University alumni, jumped out to a 21-13 lead in the first quarter, was led by Jon Elmore’s 17 points. Teammates JP Tokoto and James Kelly each added 12 points. Taevian Kinsey came off the bench to score 10 points.

Sideline Cancer, which was playing in its 10th TBT event, was led by Tyrese Rice’s 20 points. Teammate Marcus Keene added 13 points in a game Sideline trailed at halftime, 35-31. Saint Francis alum Keith Braxton Jr. finished with nine points.

Sideline Cancer was 2-0 going into the game, thanks to wins over Challenge ALS Florida and Ram Nation, a team comprised of Virginia Commonwealth alumni. Herd That, which is playing in its sixth TBT, got wins over Zoo Crew, Pitt alumni, and Best Virginia, a West Virginia alumni team, to get to Saturday’s game.

On Sunday, Herd That downed Boeheim’s Army, a Syracuse alumni team, to advance to the Final Four against Heartlife on Wednesday.

Sideline Cancer plays in the TBT in honor of the Greg and Cathy Griffith Family Foundation.
